'Here's Johnny!' How many years did we hear those two words? Johnny Carson is why America stayed up late. Some of the best shows came in the 70's, 80's, and 90's and these three comedians made us laugh and laugh late at night.
Steve Martin had been working as a writer for 'The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour'. He began to branch out with his own comic routines but it was in 1972 that he would be vanished from 'The Tonight Show'. Martin grew as a comedian and would be invited back as a guest host for 'The Tonight Show' and bam life took off for the young man.
Robin Williams would come to 'The Tonight Show' and would square off with Johnny about the latest gossip and fads or would simply just talk about anything that came in his bizarre mind. Johnny would simply sit back in awe of Robin and just play along.
Eddie Murphy, in 1982, was simply starting his career but by the time his third appearance took place he was on his way to becoming a star. In a matter of seven months he would be a star on 'Saturday Night Live' and his first comedy album was being Grammy nominated. Murphy would also be shooting his first movie in this short period of time.
'The Tonight Show' was a stepping stone for some of the greatest comedians, singers, and actors of all time. For most of America if you made it on 'The Tonight Show' then you made it altogether. Johnny Carson was loved by the American late night audience and he simply could do no wrong.Time Life is bringing this show to us on DVD on July 4th, 2017. The nine episodes are a step back in time and for some of us it's like going back home. The DVD quality is excellent and the sights and sounds are fantastic. This is definitely one for that personal library and it is especially one for memory Lane. So don't waste any time and pick this three CD collection of television history. Enjoy.
