Victor Pivert (Louis de Funes) is a French factory owner. He’s married but his wife believes he is in love
with another woman. Victor’s wife is a dentist and is working on their
daughter's upcoming marriage. Now, Victor is a very bigoted sort of guy
and when you see him you question if anyone would want to marry him. The
only thing he really has going for him is that he owns a factory and
has money. One day Victor finds himself taken hostage by Mohammed Larbi
Slimane (Claude Giraud). Mohammed is an Arab rebel leader who feels he
can make a buck off of Victor. Problems arise though when Arab
assassins from Mohammed’s homeland and the police come after the pair.
The police think Victor is a murderer and the Arabs think Mohammed has
turned on them. This all turns hilarious when the two begin wearing
rabbis the outfits. They believe they can hide from both groups dressed
up like rabbis. Victor poses as Rabbi Jacob a well thought of man who
has come back to visit France for the first time in 30 years. Rabbi
Jacob has lived in The United States all these years and the
neighborhood is filled with glee in his return.
This film was made in 1973 and is a cult classic that is a riot to watch. So with all the confusion Victor still has to be able to give his beloved daughter away in marriage. What makes this even funnier is that Rabbi Jacob (Marcel Dario) actually returns to France thus making this even more hilarious.
Film Movement brings this wonderful film to Blu-Ray on September 10th, 2019. The quality of the Blu-Ray is excellent and the sights and sounds are exquisite. This wonderful comedy will be an awesome addition to that personal library. So sit back and enjoy.
