Sarah (Marta Dusseldorp) is a nurse living in Australia in the 1950’s. After WWII she had become involved with the Bligh family. A rather wealthy family with the usual quirks that could turn your stomach. They were anti-Semitic, totally sexual in nature, and truthfully were snobs. The time is 1958 and Sarah and her son are happy and safe. They don’t live with George Bligh (Brett Climo) for reasons some say are political in nature. George’s mother Elizabeth (Noni Hazlehurst) has once again found love and happiness with a new man that she has married. The granddaughter Anna (Abby Earl) is living the life of a young socialite. And you would possibly think that all is right with the world except George’s wife Regina (Jenni Baird) is trying to be released from the insane asylum. Due to her murderous nature it is highly unlikely that she will get out but it makes for good TV. The explosive nature of the topics of interest that are covered in this show makes it one of the best. It’s a period piece but you can look and see how it is relevant even for today’s standards.
As time has passed the world has lost the aristocracy that once was very prevalent after the war but you can still imagine what it was like to live through this period. The cast is by far at its best with David Berry, Craig Hall, Sara Wiseman, Frankie J. Holden, Matt Day, Aaron Pedersen, and Arianwen Parkes-Lockwood.
Acorn brings this wonderful drama of a time gone by to DVD on April 3rd, 2018. The quality of the DVD’s are excellent and the sights and sounds are perfect. This is definitely one for the personal library and I wouldn’t wait to long to pick this up. The story lines are excellent and expertly put together to make this one of the best. So, watch Sarah put her life together in a world sometimes upside down and enjoy this beautifully put together show.
