Josephine Newton (Claudia Karvan) is a solicitor out of Australia. She had a nice practice going until one day an angry client decided they were going to take out their frustration by firebombing Newton’s offices. Now most people might take the hint and get out of the business but not Josephine. She took a job at a legal firm by the name of Knox. Now, Knox is one of those high powered legal firms with the interesting cases. What’s funny about this job is that Newton’s old flame Lewis (Toby Schmitz) also works at Knox.
Newton had two former clients that would become colleagues working at her old firm and she wanted to continue their business relationship. So she moved them into the basement of the building. Johnny (Sean Keenan) a former car thief and Helena (Georgina Naidu) a woman with a great legal mind but with a fear of the courtroom were Newton’s partners so to speak. Actually they did a lot of the leg work that Newton required with her cases. Newton and Lewis would tackle the high-profile cases upstairs and then she quietly and secretively run downstairs to consult with Helena and Johnnny. Now to Newton’s hectic life is her husband (Brett Tucker) and her teenage daughter. Adding all this together makes Newton’s Law one funny and enjoyable TV show.
This Australian masterpiece makes for some enjoyable TV. Acorn is bringing 8 episodes to DVD on March 6th, 2018. The quality of the DVD is fantastic and the sights and sounds are exquisite to watch. Newton’s Law takes the hustle and bustle of high profile legal cases and turns them into believable stories. Working with an old boyfriend and being married is awkward to say the least. Having a teenager to boot also makes for some enjoyable fun. The trust that Newton has with Johnny and Helena shows a commitment that is seldom found. So don’t waste any time and sit back and watch some wonderful TV.
