'Surge Of Power: Revenge Of The Sequel' DVD Review

Surge is a gay superhero. Creator Vincent J. Roth plays surge the gay, caped superhero. You really have to sit back and ask yourself do we need a gay superhero? The answer is yes. It’s about time that the gay community has a superhero all to themselves. We sit and contemplate the impact that a gay superhero has, and just to be honest there really isn’t anything wrong with the idea. You must simply think in terms of the fact that Surge is a superhero and he is there to offer aide to any and all who need it.

Our story opens with Surge's nemesis Metal Master being released from jail. Now, metal master is trying to get back together with his parents. He is very tempted to continue living the life of crime. Auger sends metal master to Las Vegas to retrieve some crystals with mysterious powers. Surge realizes he is going to need more powers and has to turn on the artificial intelligence located in the surge mobile. Back in the city Auger steps out and must be contained. Omen becomes alerted to Auger staying in the city and alerts the council which is only bent on world domination. Surge soon realizes that he is facing some serious enemies more than he ever has done before. What makes this so great is that so great is that surge must protect mankind. Something that is not going to be easy to do.

'A Place To Call Home Season 5' DVD Review

Sarah (Marta Dusseldorp) is a nurse living in Australia in the 1950’s. After WWII she had become involved with the Bligh family. A rather wealthy family with the usual quirks that could turn your stomach. They were anti-Semitic, totally sexual in nature, and truthfully were snobs. The time is 1958 and Sarah and her son are happy and safe. They don’t live with George Bligh (Brett Climo) for reasons some say are political in nature. George’s mother Elizabeth (Noni Hazlehurst) has once again found love and happiness with a new man that she has married. The granddaughter Anna (Abby Earl) is living the life of a young socialite. And you would possibly think that all is right with the world except George’s wife Regina (Jenni Baird) is trying to be released from the insane asylum. Due to her murderous nature it is highly unlikely that she will get out but it makes for good TV. The explosive nature of the topics of interest that are covered in this show makes it one of the best. It’s a period piece but you can look and see how it is relevant even for today’s standards.

As time has passed the world has lost the aristocracy that once was very prevalent after the war but you can still imagine what it was like to live through this period. The cast is by far at its best with David Berry, Craig Hall, Sara Wiseman, Frankie J. Holden, Matt Day, Aaron Pedersen, and Arianwen Parkes-Lockwood.

Acorn brings this wonderful drama of a time gone by to DVD on April 3rd, 2018. The quality of the DVD’s are excellent and the sights and sounds are perfect. This is definitely one for the personal library and I wouldn’t wait to long to pick this up. The story lines are excellent and expertly put together to make this one of the best. So, watch Sarah put her life together in a world sometimes upside down and enjoy this beautifully put together show.

'The Governor: The Complete Collection' DVD Review

Helen Hewitt (Janet McTeer) has been sent to Barfield Prison to look into an inmates death that is very suspicious in nature. The governor of the prison soon loses her job due to the investigation that Hewitt is leading. What Hewitt doesn’t realize is that she is about to become the Governor of Barfield Prison. This in itself wouldn’t be such a big deal except that she is a female in charge of a male populated prison. Hewitt is greeted with open hostility from the inmates and the guards and prison staff in general are not too happy about having a female boss. Hewitt has walked into a mine field so to speak with this assignment.

Barfield Prison has just gotten over a severe riot right before Hewitt's arrival so it was still touchy between the guards and inmates. Hewitt was also a young woman with little to no experience as a Governor. She came into the job with all kinds of new ideas and a sort no-nonsense kind of way about her. In other words she simply rubbed people the wrong way. Hewitt works hard to the gain the respect of the inmates and the guards and it is a joy to watch the steps she must take to get there. This is definitely one tough show to watch in that it’s pure drama at its best. Along with  McTeer other members of the cast are Sophie Okonedo, Eamonn Walker, Derek Martin, Ron Donachie, and Idris Elba making this a well rounded cast.

Acorn brings this enjoyable drama to DVD on April 3rd, 2018. The quality of the five disc set is excellent and the sight and sounds are exquisite. This is a definite for that personal library and you will never regret it. The twelve episodes make up two seasons of this wonderful show. Don’t waste any time and pick it up as soon as you can.

'Love, Lies & Records' DVD Review

Kate Dickenson (Ashley Jensen) is the Senior Registrar in a British Registrar office. This is a heartwarming drama that shows the daily goings on in the office where people record life’s big events. People will come to record the birth of their children or when they get married. The worst part of the job is when Dickenson has to record the death of a beloved friend or family member. Kate has a life away from the office where she has teenagers and her longtime partner Rob (Adrian Bower) to deal with. I suppose we can say that Kate has a very emotional life at home and at work. So with everything that Kate has to deal with one could say that this is a show with a lot of drama.

Kate’s coworkers, especially Judy (Rebecca Front), are rather jealous of her due to the big promotion she just received. Judy is so jealous that she wants to report Kate and her indiscretion she had with a fellow co worker by the name of Rick (Kenny Doughty). Judy believes that by reporting this indiscretion it would make Kate look terrible to her other coworkers. In other words Judy just wants to ruin Kate’s job and family life. Yes, we can say this throws a lot more pressure on Kate’s shoulders.

Kay Mellor the award winning writer does a beautiful job putting these stories together that brings the best out of the actors on the show. Acorn brings this wonderful drama to DVD on March 27th, 2018. The quality of the DVD is excellent and the sights and sounds are superb. This show will be a fantastic addition to that personal library and will add a certain spice to your viewing pleasure. So don’t waste any time and pick this one up. Watch how a modern business woman works through the everyday struggles of dealing with the general public and her coworkers followed by having to go home and deal with her partner and the kids, teenagers no less. Life is very interesting to say the least.

'The Brokenwood Mysteries Series 4' DVD Review

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Shepherd (Neill Rea) has been working in the small town of Brokenwood, New Zealand for some time. He still is having a time adjusting from the big city to the country life. His assistant Kristin Sims (Fern Sutherland) has been a big help but well let’s face it they are learning how to work with each other. Now don’t get me wrong they’re relationship is getting better each and every day, but it could be better.

Brokenwood is a very quiet and peaceful place on the surface but hidden beneath is a place that can overflow with passion at the drop of a hat. Unfortunately, when these passions come to the surface this quaint little village can come up with some horrendous crimes. Brokenwood is a very beautiful place to look at. The scenery is out of this world and the people are very friendly but it does get ugly when the time is right.

This collection of stories has to deal with a parachutist who falls to his death due to the tampering of his parachute. Another story is going to deal with the murder of the owner of a Victorian re-enactment village. Now, the owner was rather eccentric to say the least but it turns out to be a very interesting case. The third story is about some farmers feuding over some honey bees. Yes, that’s right, it seems no one knows who actually owns the rights of the bees and it turns rather ugly. Finally, the last story deals with a nursing home filled with suspects who all suffer from dementia. It is an interesting look at the struggles with old age and murder.

Acorn brings this wonderful group of stories to DVD on March 27th, 2018. The quality of the DVD is excellent and the sights and sounds are perfect. This DVD will definitely add a certain joy of crime entertainment to that collection of yours. You will enjoy sitting back and watching the goings on of this quiet little town that every once in awhile will erupt with violence and murder.

'Newton’s Law' DVD Review

Josephine Newton (Claudia Karvan) is a solicitor out of Australia. She had a nice practice going until one day an angry client decided they were going to take out their frustration by firebombing Newton’s offices. Now most people might take the hint and get out of the business but not Josephine. She took a job at a legal firm by the name of Knox. Now, Knox is one of those high powered legal firms with the interesting cases. What’s funny about this job is that Newton’s old flame Lewis (Toby Schmitz) also works at Knox.

Newton had two former clients that would become colleagues working at her old firm and she wanted to continue their business relationship. So she moved them into the basement of the building. Johnny (Sean Keenan) a former car thief and Helena (Georgina Naidu) a woman with a great legal mind but with a fear of the courtroom were Newton’s partners so to speak. Actually they did a lot of the leg work that Newton required with her cases. Newton and Lewis would tackle the high-profile cases upstairs and then she quietly and secretively run downstairs to consult with Helena and Johnnny. Now to Newton’s hectic life is her husband (Brett Tucker) and her teenage daughter. Adding all this together makes Newton’s Law one funny and enjoyable TV show.

This Australian masterpiece makes for some enjoyable TV. Acorn is bringing 8 episodes to DVD on March 6th, 2018. The quality of the DVD is fantastic and the sights and sounds are exquisite to watch. Newton’s Law takes the hustle and bustle of high profile legal cases and turns them into believable stories. Working with an old boyfriend and being married is awkward to say the least. Having a teenager to boot also makes for some enjoyable fun. The trust that Newton has with Johnny and Helena shows a commitment that is seldom found. So don’t waste any time and sit back and watch some wonderful TV.
