'Jericho Of Scotland Yard' DVD Review

DCI Michael Jericho (Robert Lindsay) is a top notch detective for Scotland Yard. He works on some of the more high profiled cases and always seems to have his picture in the tabloids. Set in 1950's London the war is long gone and a vibrant feel has taken over the city. Jericho is aided by his trusted sergeant Clive Harvey (David Troughton) and a young go getter DC John Caldicott (Ciaran McMenamin).

Michael Jericho is a somewhat troubled sort of chap. When he was just a lad he witnessed his father killed and the murder was never solved. This haunts Jericho to this day. His father was a policeman and this had something to do with him becoming a cop as well. Jericho was in love once and it was during the war. While he fought overseas his girl ran off with someone else. Jericho never married and this may have something to do with his callous lifestyle. There is one plus to his off duty antics and it has to do with a young lady in his building. Her name is Juliette (Aurelie Bargeme) but she is a local prostitute. Jericho fancy's her but can't seem to find a way of asking her out. Jericho is excellent at his job but with his dark side mostly dealing with his past it makes you wonder just how long he can carry on with his job. Sergeant Harvey does an excellent job of keeping his friend and boss in line but only time will tell if Jericho can continue as the top notch detective of Scotland Yard.

'Close To The Enemy' DVD Review

WWII has ended. The gathering of information against the Germans for the war crimes trials is taking place. The Cold War is beginning to take shape and enemies just a few years ago are now showing signs of friendship.

Callum Ferguson (Jim Sturgess) was an intelligence officer during the war. He must complete one last thing for the British army and that is to convince a German scientist named Dieter Kohler (August Diehl) to work for the British. Koehler worked for the Nazis and was part of the jet propulsion group. Ferguson wants Koehler to build a jet engine for the British army. The problem is Koehler is being investigated for war crimes and is being hounded by a young woman working for the war crimes tribunal by name of Kathy Griffiths.

Ferguson also has his own problems to deal with other than swaying Koehler to work for the British. Ferguson's younger brother is fighting the psychological trauma that he experienced due to the war. Ferguson is also deeply attracted to his best friends wife Rachel Lombard (Charlotte Riley). The war turned the world upside down and friends before the war are now healing their wounds and being friends again. Ferguson and Koehler are slowly forming a bond but is it going to be strong enough to build on trust?

This highly charged drama not only deals with the war but shows just how troubled the times were before the Cold War. Acorn brings this miniseries to DVD on December 27th, 2016 for your viewing pleasure. The quality of the DVD is excellent and the sights and sounds are spectacular. This will make a wonderful addition to that personal library. It's still the holidays and just in case your still in the mood of giving gifts pick a copy up for that special friend. Enjoy.

'31' DVD Review

Once again Rob Zombie has opened up his mind to the horrors that surround us. In '31', he takes a group of carnival workers who actually get along and have a good time with each other and turns their lives to a living hell. Our carnies are traveling to the next gig and they pull over to get some gas. While there some strange stuff start to take place, but it's after they leave the station that all hell breaks loose. While traveling down this road they are attacked by a group of clowns. Some of the carnies are killed but the others are taken captive and led to a compound where they are chained up. The remaining carnies are Charly (Sheri Moon Zombie), Venus Virgo (Meg Foster), Panda Thomas (Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs), Levon Wally (Kevin Jackson) and Roscoe Pepper (Jeff Daniel Phillips).

Now, the captors are known as the heads and you have Sick Head (Pancho Moler), Psycho Head (Lew Temple), Schizo Head (David Ury), Sex Head (Elizabeth Daily), Death Head (Torsten Voges), and Doom Head (Richard Brake).  The heads are simply people who are just plain sick.

You see 31 is a game. A game of life and death and it lasts for 12 hours. Now, what makes this even more bizarre is that there are 3 people who bet on the outcome of the game. Sister Serpent (Jane Carr), Sister Dragon (Judy Geeson) and Father Murder (Malcolm McDowell) round out the bettors of the game. This is simply one gruesome film pitting the good vs evil plot to its finest. Unfortunately, as the story plays out you learn that the heads are just human beings but that's as far as it goes. For a moment you want to feel for them but then they kill someone and the feeling passes quickly.

Lionsgate brings this story to us on DVD on December 20th, 2016. The quality of the DVD is excellent and the sights and sounds are exquisite. This is definitely one for that personal library and it would make a great Christmas gift for that horror lover. So don't waste any time and pick up a copy today.

'Duck Dynasty Season 10' DVD Review

Our show hails out of West Monroe, Louisiana and has the Robertson clan as the showcase of the series. This TV version of southern hospitality has got to be the craziest thing to come along in many years. Some have said this has got to be the most dysfunctional family to ever be shown on TV. The families claim to fame is they own the Duck Commander Co. Now, you ask yourself what could this family from Louisiana make and market? The answer is duck call devices.

Season 10 starts off with the 25th anniversary of Willie and Korie. Willie gets some really terrible ideas from his brother on gifts to get Korie. Korie on the other hand is eavesdropping on the family as to specifics about the party and of course every which way they turn something goes wrong. Unfortunately something does come up that does really have an effect on the 25th anniversary of the two, but I'll let you watch so you can find out on your own.

Also in the first episode of the 'Duck Dynasty Season 10' Si gets a parking ticket and actually is going to court to fight it. This one I have to let you find out the results on your own. In the second episode Willie gets a mystery statue from a chainsaw artist but he is less than thrilled because of the size of the pot belly on the statue. The second episode also has an intervention taking place. You see Ms. Kay's storage shed is so over packed that the family feels they have to talk to her about the hoarding that she is doing and how it's not good. This is all in the first two episodes. There are 14 episodes in season 10. Can we say what a crazy time you will have watching this show.

Lionsgate brings all this fun to DVD on December 13th, 2016. The quality of the DVD is excellent and the sights and sounds are fantastic. This is a must for all to sit and watch and it make an excellent addition to that personal library. Better yet, if you have that good friend who can use a laugh then this will make a great Christmas gift. So take the time and see what's going on in West Monroe, Louisiana with the Robertson family. Enjoy.

Nathaniel Reed (Trace Adkins) is a hard working man. He and his wife Laura Lee (Michelle Harrison) have a wonderful life together and want to have children to make it a happy family. Here's the problem, Reed has a past and its a bad one. Reed was an infamous outlaw and not everyone forgives and forgets. Laura Lee is the local teacher and Reed makes his money honestly but this is not enough for him to just sit back and wait for Calhoun to come after him. Reed gets his old gang together and becomes Texas Jack wanted outlaw.

Judd Nelson, Claude Duhamel, Garry Chalk, and Helena Marie round out the rest of the cast and help keep this western on track. The days of the western seem to have come to an end but every so often one sneaks in and this is one of them. 'Stagecoach: The Texas Jack Story' has great action packed moments and great scenery with plenty of gun play to keep you interested. This is definitely one to keep.

'800 Words Season 1' DVD Review

George Turner (Erik Thomson) has just become a widower. Devastated by the death of his wife, he ponders his future as alone. While logged into the Internet George decides he needs a clean break and a fresh start for he and his teenage children Shay (Melina Vidler) and Arlo (Benson Jack Anthony). Now, this all sounds pretty good except for the fact that George will be leaving a very lucrative job in Sydney and moving to a small seaside town in New Zealand. Weld is a beautiful little hamlet but it is completely opposite of the hustle and bustle of Sydney. What makes this even more interesting is Weld's citizens. They can be somewhat eccentric like the local handyman Woody (Rick Donald ).

Shay and Arlo cannot believe that their father would decide to just jump up and move. Let alone the fact that they just lost their mother and they are completely devastated ,but now they have to put up with completely new surroundings. This makes for some huge laughs when the family makes the move. George is not a bad looking fellow and when some of the single women of Weld hear that he is a widower, well yes it doesn't get any better than this. '800 Words' is filled with a special kind of warmth in the midst of a tragedy and makes for some good entertainment.

'Britain's Bloody Crown' DVD Review

The Wars of the Roses was fought between the houses of York and Lancaster. The period lasted some 30 years and saw the crown change hands seven times. Thousands of people would lose their lives during one of the most violent periods in British history. This documentary drama has been presented by historian Dan Jones.

Jones brought together some very fine actors such as  Steffan Boje (Richard, Duke of York), James Oliver Wheatley (Earl of Warwick), Darren Bransford ( Richard III), Tom Durant Pritchard (Edward IV), and Adina Galupa ( Elizabeth Woodville). The four episodes are like watching four mini movies.

'The Mad King' our first episode looks at the power struggle between Margaret of Anjou and Richard of York. The second episode 'The Kingmaker Must Die' tells the story of Edward IV and the Earl of Warwick. They were once allies and friends and would end up fighting each to the death. The third episode' The Princes Must Die' will tell the story of Richard III and the Princes of the Tower which incidentally is one of the most interesting cold cases in history. The fourth episode 'A Mother's Love' will finish our story and tell who actually ended the Wars of the Roses.

Jones delivers a good version of history by telling the human side of the equation. He brings out the human side to explain the politics of the day. Acorn brings this documentary/drama to DVD on December 13th, 2016. The quality of the DVD is excellent and the sights and sounds are wonderful. The approach taken by Jones makes this a must see, and you will be entertained. This will make a wonderful addition to that personal library. With this being the holiday season, 'Britain's Bloody Crown' would also make this account of history a wonderful gift to some special friend. So don't waste any time and pick this one up. Enjoy.

'19-2, Season 3' DVD Review

Station 19 of the Montreal Police Department has been rocked to its foundations with the revelation of a mole inside its ranks. '19-2, Season 3' opens with the aftermath of the mole's suicide. There are also repercussions due to the arrest of officer Jean-Marc Brouillard for domestic violence. There is much going on at station 19.

In our first episode Homicide Detectives have a confrontation with Officer Nick Barron (Adrian Holmes) over the death of his cousin. This will take up much of nick's time for awhile as he wants to find out some answers about his cousin Cassie's death. While at the same time Officer Ben Chartier (Jared Keeso) is building a deeper relationship with Nick's sister.

This show does an excellent job of looking at just what a police station has to do to get the job done correctly. It really takes a hard look at police procedures. The show goes one step farther and takes a hard look at the officers lives outside the work area. The action also adds a good touch and will make you want to see the next show each week. What's great is that with this DVD you will have the whole season at your fingertips.

Officer Brouillard will eventually make it back to the Station and will resume his position as union representative, but trouble will continue to come his way. Ben and Nick will have trouble with some questionable people and in the end it will push Officer Ben Chartier to do some questionable things, but you will really have to pick up a copy to see the rest of Season 3. This show keeps you glued to the tube and it will make a perfect addition to that personal library. Now if you have that special friend that enjoys police drama and action then this will make an excellent gift this Holiday Season.

Acorn
brings this cop drama to us on DVD on December 13th, 2016. The quality of the DVD is excellent and the sights and sounds are exquisite and right on. The action is superb. Enjoy.

'2016 World Series Collector's Edition: Chicago Cubs' DVD Review

This past World Series was something for the history books. It took 108 years for the Chicago Cubs to win a series, and they did it in such a fine way. Coach Joe Maddon brought together a team like no other. His cast and crew included Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez, Jake Arrieta, Dexter Fowler, David Ross, Jon Lester, and MVP Ben Zobrist. The Cubs played the Cleveland Indians for the title and it took all seven games to accomplish it. Cleveland gave the Cubs a run for their money but in the end the Cubs would simply outplay them.

This 8 disc package will take you from the first game though game seven and you won't miss a minute of every inning. You will see every strikeout, every hit, and every pitch. This is definitely the complete series. What you will have will be history in the making. The Chicago Cubs have for the last 108 years endured ridicule and jokes. Every spring training the fans would look at the players and ask the question would it be this year? Each season would end and other teams would go to the playoffs and then to the series, but not the Cubs. They would be sitting at home watching everybody else play for the crown.

2016 opened with a ray of hope and as the season would drag on through the hot summer, hopes began to be raised. The Cubs would eliminate the Giants and Dodgers and end up going up against the Indians. The city was electrified and the prayers were being said. The '2016 World Series Collector's Edition: Chicago Cubs' is everything a fan would want. This would also be the perfect gift for that someone special.

Shout Factory and Major League Baseball bring the complete 2016 World Series to us on DVD on December 13th, 2016. The quality of the set is excellent and the sights and sounds make you think you are in the stands. Christmas is coming and if you want to treat yourself or give it away as a gift, this is The Chicago Cubs and Major League Baseball at its best.

'The Search For Weng Weng' DVD Review

Andrew Leavold is a B-movie fanatic. The man simply loves the stuff. His dream was to bring a documentary that looked at the B-movie genre and explained it inside and out. Weng Weng was a 2'9" Filipino James Bond movie actor. His films of the 1970's 'For Y'ur Height Only' and 'The Impossible Kid' have become an Internet sensation. Leavold takes a look at the movie business to show what's right and wrong with the industry.

Weng Weng came on quick and just as quick was gone. This could actually be called a look at what makes a cult sensation. Weng Weng died in 1992 so everything told in this documentary is word of mouth from those that knew him or worked with him.

Leavold travelled to the Philippines and actually got lucky. He was able to talk with directors, stuntmen, and editors who worked with the actor. Many of the interviews were done in some interesting venues and makes for some good commentary. As time goes by and Leavold has made several trips to the Island he was able to piece together a rather interesting look at the B-film actor. Imelda Marcos even gets in on the fun of this interesting look at the Philippine movie industry.

Wild Eye Releasing brings this documentary to DVD on November 8th, 2016. The quality of the DVD is excellent and the sights and sounds are fantastic. This look at the rise and fall of a cult sensation is something that you may want to take the time to watch. In essence it explains much of what we the public never have an idea of, what actually goes on behind the scenes of the movie business. About the only thing that is lacking with this documentary is that Weng Weng doesn't speak for himself. This is definitely something that you may want to add to that personal library. It really does explain much. Enjoy.

'Never Open The Door' DVD Review

It's Thanksgiving and three couples have found a cozy retreat in a secluded cabin slap dab in the woods. Luke (Mike Wood) and his pregnant wife Maria (Deborah Venegas), Isaac (Matt Aidan) and his girlfriend Angel (Kristina Page) and Terrance (George Troester) and his friend Tess (Jessica Sonneborn) have arrived for a wonderful holiday. As the couples settle in a stranger (Steven Richards) knocks on the door. They make the mistake of letting him in and he begins to throw up blood and falls to the floor. His last words, "Never open the door", at first go unnoticed but as time goes on they begin to sound a meaning.

Some of the strangers blood gets on Tess and a little while later she disappears. Now, what's interesting is that a phone call from Tess telling everyone that she is running late and will soon be there. So then who was the Tess that was among them a little while ago. From here on panic takes over and the friends become unraveled. The real Tess eventually shows up, but what do the friends do? They tie her up. When they search the cabin and surrounding area they begin to fight among themselves and mistrust comes over the group. What makes matters worse is that they spot some strange  men dressed in black hanging around outside the cabin. They all want to escape but who is going to open the door that is the question.

This movie has all the characteristics of the modern day horror/thriller. The film is made in black and white and everything falls right into place. Maltauro Entertainment brings this film to DVD on December 6th, 2016. The quality of the DVD is excellent and the sights and sounds are exquisite. For those of you who enjoy horror films this is a must. It will make a wonderful addition to that personal library and if you know someone who would enjoy this wonderful film then what a Christmas gift it would make. Enjoy.

'The 2016 World Series, Two-Disc' Blu-Ray Review

The Chicago Cubs won the 2016 World Series. What makes this such an amazing event is that the last time the Cubs were able to win the World Series was 108 years ago. For long time Cubs fan Vince Vaughn this was a dream come true. This two disc Blu-Ray is narrated by Vaughn and you can simply hear in his voice the pride and joy that he has for this fantastic feat.

The Cubs began this journey when they acquired Coach Joe Maddon from the Tampa Bay Rays. Many fans knew something special was going to take place when Madden took over, but no one had a clue that the drought would come to an end. For many years the Cubs were the joke every spring training that this was going to be the year, but for 108 seasons it never occurred. The acquisition of players like MVP Ben Zobrist, Javier Baez, Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Jake Arrieta, Dexter Fowler, Jon Lester and David Ross brought the dream team to Chicago.

The persons who ignited all this joy were Cub's owner Tom Ricketts and the President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein. Between these two men they brought all of these people together and with the final out of the 2016 World Series brought the series trophy back to Chicago. You will see highlights of each and every game of the series between the Cubs and the Cleveland Indians. The Indians fought hard and a seventh game was needed to seal the deal. You will hear from the players themselves as they are interviewed about this tremendous event. You will feel as if you are right there for each play.

Shout Factory and Major League Baseball bring this wonderful event to Blu-Ray on December 6th, 2016. The quality of the Blu-Ray is excellent and the sights and sounds are fantastic. This would make a wonderful Christmas gift or an excellent addition to that personal library. This is history in the making and hopefully for the Cubs sake that it won't be another 108 years for another World Series Championship.

'The Wild Life' Blu-Ray Review

Our story opens with a parrot named Mak (David Howard) telling us about a man named Robinson Crusoe (Yuri Lowenthal). Now Crusoe was sailing the Pacific Ocean and his ship runs into a terrible storm. The ship can't handle the weather and Crusoe and his dog Aynsley make it to a small island with some pretty quirky animals. Mak was out with some of his friends just strolling down the beach when they run into Crusoe. The problem is that the animals had no idea what Crusoe was, they had never seen a human before. At first the animals were very suspicious of Crusoe but as time went on they realized that this man actually needed them to survive. You see Crusoe was pretty clumsy.

Some of the other animals were a tapir named Rosie (Laila Berzins), an anteater named  Epi (Sandy Fox) and a almost blind goat named Scrubby (Joey Caman). Crusoe needed a place to stay and it's Mac who at first decided to help this human. Little by little the other animals lend a hand and Crusoe has a place to lay his head when he wants to sleep. The animals were pretty lazy. You see, they actually could have laid back and eaten bugs all day and would have been happy. It was Mac who always questioned if there was more to the world than just their little island. Life becomes complicated when two cats land on the island and stir things up. The cats want to take over control of the island but when Crusoe and the gang realize what they're up to all the chaos begins.

Lionsgate brings this wonderful story to Blu-Ray on November 29th, 2016. The quality of the Blu-Ray is excellent and the sights and sounds are exquisite. Children will love the animation and story, and the whole family can sit back and enjoy this wonderful tale of adventure. You will definitely want to add this one to that personal library. Enjoy.

'Pete's Dragon' Blu-Ray Review

Our story opens with a family driving down the road. Pete (Levi Alexander) and his parents swerve to miss a deer but the car crashes. The impact kills his parents but Pete is able to get out of the car. He stumbles around and is surrounded by a pack of wolves. The wolves are frightened away by what appears to be a Dragon. Pete can't believe his eyes because it really is a Dragon and he eventually calls it Elliot (John Kassir).

Six years later Pete (Oakes Fegley) and Elliot have been living in a cave and seem to be doing quite well considering. Now Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) is telling some children the story of the dragon. Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard) overhears her father and becomes interested. You see Grace is a Forrest Ranger and thinks she might get lucky and spot the dragon sometime. Grace was walking in the woods one day and Pete spotted her. He followed her for awhile but then a lumberjack named Gavin (Karl Urban) comes on the scene so he holds back. Grace's fiancé Jack (Wes Bentley) and his daughter Natalie (Oona Laurence) also arrive to see what Gavin is doing. Gavin and Jack are brothers and Jack's not too happy that Gavin is out cutting down trees on his own.

Natalie spots Pete and follows him. The two climb a tree but Natalie almost falls out of the tree but is only scraped up. Pete tries to run away but hits his heads and is unconscious. They take him to the hospital but Pete runs away. Grace and Natalie go looking for Pete and eventually do find him. They take him in but Pete wants to be with Elliot.

This is pure Disney at its best. I'm not going to tell the ending, that you will have to see for yourself, but you better have some tissue around. Disney brings this wonderful story to Blu-Ray on November 29th, 2016. The quality of the Blu-Ray is excellent and the sights and sounds are exquisite. This is definitely one for that personal library. So don't waste any time and pick up a copy right away.
