'Cassandro, The Exotico' DVD Review

Saúl Armendariz was born May 20th, 1970 in El Paso, Texas. He spent most of his youth traveling from El Paso to Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua Mexico which is where his family originated from. Saúl is not a big man and only stands 5foot 5 1/2 inches tall. He only weighs 170 lbs but he is one of the most flamboyant wrestlers around. At an early age he knew he was gay. He comes from a family that every Sunday morning his family was seated in the pew of his local church and every Sunday night they would be seated watching the local wrestling matches.

Saúl would join the Lucha Libre which is the Mexican wrestling and is known for its free styling wrestling. The Lucha Libre wrestlers all wear masks and it’s a major draw when a match is set up to unmask one of the teams.

Saúl took the wrestling name 'Cassandro The Exotico' and for years was noted for his flamboyance and his kicks which would bring the match to an end. He does not hide his being gay and actually has made it pay off for him. He has won the MWA World Welterweight Championship as well as the UWA World Lightweight Championship.

Director Marie Losier takes us on an interesting look at the life of one of professional wrestling’s most flamboyant and does it on 16mm film. Saúl has completed his wrestling career but continues to dazzle us with other larger than life activities.

Film Movement brings this documentary to DVD on September 17th,2019. The quality of the DVD is excellent and the sights and sounds are superb. This is definitely one for that personal library and will make you want to watch it over and over. So enjoy the life of Saúl Armendariz also known as CassandroThe Exotico and his career as one of the most openly gay flamboyant wrestlers to date.
