Democratic Convention Day Four Wrap Up

The Democrats had their final evening and what an evening it was. Hillary Clinton accepted the nomination for President. She became the first female to represent a party for the office of President of the United States. The one main difference between her acceptance speech and Donald Trump's was she was able to highlight what is needed to change and work on and Trump simply didn't have a clue. Trump spoke of how bad things were in the U.S., but he didn't specify how to fix it.
Chelsea Clinton spoke eloquently of her mother before she introduced her to the audience. She talked openly of growing up with Hillary as her mother and the closeness they shared. It was an enjoyable speech since for some of us have watched her grow from a young girl to a mother herself.

When Clinton took the stage she was dressed in a white pant suit outfit with her daughter in a red dress and Bill in a blue suit. They were very patriotic. Her speech started by thanking her family, friends, and the people who helped her get to this historical point of her life. She addressed her past deeds trying to help woman and also her time with united healthcare. She spoke of her time in the senate and as First Lady, but it was half way through her speech when she took off the gloves and went after Trump. She pointed out how bad it would be with him as President. She spoke of how to fix some of the problems facing us. She gave us direction and hope. Trump simply told us how bad things are and that he could fix everything all by himself. Clinton spoke of fixing things together. That not one person could be our savior.

The Democrats had a good week. It started with a division between the Bernie Sanders camp and the Clinton camp. When Sanders spoke to his followers to vote for Clinton they slowly but surely seemed to come around. So that by the time Hillary Clinton spoke last night you could see a unified party.
If the election was held today she would win hands down. Her acceptance speech last night solidified her place in history. It was a great end to a wonderful week and now the time has come for both candidates to show this country who truly would be a better President.

Racism

Racism is defined as a belief that one race is superior to another. I grew in the days of the civil rights movement. At a young age I learned what racism is all about. I grew up in Tampa, Florida and at the time there were still separate water fountains that you could drink from. There were fountains for blacks and fountains for whites. While I was downtown one day with my father I became thirsty and wanted some water. I thought the hardest thing would be for me to be able to reach the water. I was only three and wasn't very tall yet. I went to the one fountain and nothing came out. I went to another and some sweet cool water came out and man it tasted good. All of a sudden my father had scooped me up and started spanking me. He was yelling at me for going to the wrong fountain. I was able to get out a question among the flowing tears. What's the difference I asked? He said it was there in black and white and it stated one fountain was for whites and the other one was for black people. He yelled at me for going to the black fountain and asked, didn't I see the sign? I said yes I did see the sign but I can't read yet. You could see shame in his eyes. He had forgotten I couldn't  read and he became so apologetic. This was the time I grew up in at a very young age. The civil rights movement caught on and the stupidity seemed to go away, or did it?

Recently thanks to Donald Trump and his presidential campaign those old feelings of racism have risen to the surface of society. People speak of the days that their family had a black person working for them so that made them good ole people. When Trump attacked the Mexicans who have come into the United States illegally, calling them rapists and murderers, he didn't look at those who came across the border and started a life for themselves and their families. As a teacher for I have come into contact with children whose parents came over the border illegally. The parents are now citizens but they were never rapists or murderers.

When Trump speaks of herding all Muslims into a ghetto style living it brings back the memories of the holocaust. I read the stories of the attacks and murders of the Jewish community. I don't want to live in fear. I don't want to live in a society where because I'm white I'm superior. Simply put I don't want to go back to that damn water fountain. It's time we stood up as Americans and said enough is enough. It's time we all live together in peace. It's time.

Democratic Convention Day Three Wrap Up

This is not reality TV. This is reality. Michael Bloomberg spoke last night. Bloomberg the former mayor of New York City spoke pretty straight forward about whether to vote for Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. Vice President Joe Biden spoke to the delegates and didn't mince his words. He is behind Clinton and even though these two have not always seen eye to eye he believes Clinton is the right vote.

The speaker that caught the attention of all inside the auditorium was President Barack Obama. Obama fired his speech directly to Trump and called him a playground bully. He spoke of his business acumen and that he has gone bankrupt many times. He praised Hillary Clinton for even getting into the ring and running for President. Obama spoke kindly of Clinton and you could see just how moved Bill Clinton was by his words. Obama spoke of how America is already strong and it is not up to one person to rebuild America. At the end of his speech Hillary Clinton came onstage and hugged the President and the crowd went wild.

The Democrats are uniting and are becoming stronger and stronger each and every day. Trump had retaliated earlier in the day and spoke of the speeches of the night before. He even went as far as to ask President Putin of Russia to step in and find those deleted emails. He actually asked a foreign country to spy on America.

The speakers of day three pointed out that Donald Trump is simply a man unhinged and should not be taken seriously as a Presidential candidate. It is up to Hillary Clinton to nail the coffin shut on the idea of a Trump presidency. If the democrats can ride the tide they have started here this week in Philadelphia then they will certainly win the White House.

Democratic Convention Day Two Wrap Up

It was an historical evening in the city of brotherly love. Philadelphia saw the first woman nominated by any party for the Presidency of the United States of America. No matter how you feel about Hillary Clinton it really doesn't matter. Whether you want Donald Trump or Bernie Sanders you have to admit this was a historical evening for all of us. Never before in the history of this country has this ever happened.

Just how good of a day did the democrats have this day? The Bernie Sanders debacle has finally been put to rest. Senator Sanders was on hand with the Vermont delegation when their votes were announced. He stood up following the announcement and spoke to the convention to rally all his votes behind Clinton. Bernie Sanders is a class act. Whether you agree or disagree with his views you have to admit this man put up the good fight. What he did for the Democratic Party was to bring unity among the ranks. Oh don't get me wrong you are still going to have those die hard delegates  that wanted Sanders for President but with his actions last night he brought many of his followers into the fold and they will now back Clinton for President.

The final act of a history making day was former President Bill Clinton getting onstage and speaking of his wife in such a way that for some in the audience you could see tears being wiped away. Bill Clinton the statesman did it again. When Bill Clinton is on he is on. He stood in front of the world so to speak and spoke openly about his wife. He touched on his first encounters with his future wife back in college. He talked so openly and touching that it literally took one and all a minute to realize that even when Hillary Clinton made her surprise visit to the convention you could see how moved she was about his speech.

Now, what can you do to top this day? It will be interesting to see what happens over the next two days. What will the Trump campaign have to say about all this? Well folks as they say... It's On. We have a Presidential Campaign on our hands and it looks like it's gonna be a good one. Enjoy.

'Jack Irish, Season 1' DVD Review

Jack Irish (Guy Pearce) is a private investigator and part time debt collector who enjoys a whiskey bottle more than anything else. Irish used to be a lawyer who after his wife died literally just gave up on life. He works to keep up with his drinking habit and from time to time he hooks up with a journalist named Linda Hillier (Marta Dusseldorp) for some female companionship. In hopes to further her career Hillier moves to Manila to work as a foreign correspondent.

Irish picks up a job to find a guy with a criminal past but when he catches up to the man he is killed right in front of him. Irish becomes implicated in the murder. Irish thinks he is being set up but has to worry about other troubles that creep into the case. Jack is eventually brought into an international conspiracy involving Muslims and Christians.

Linda soon realizes that the Manila job is not what she thought it would be. Jacks troubles will eventually take him to Manila and he and Linda will begin to work on almost the same case. When the two reunite it's not a total love fest right away.

Jack Irish is a wonderful story that keeps you interested throughout the entire show. It's interesting to witness how a man can drop so low but still can hold on after a devastating blow. Irish drinks way too much but still can get the job done.

Acorn brings this wonderful show to DVD on July 26th, 2016. The DVD quality is excellent and the sights and sounds are exquisite. This is a lovely addition to that personal library. So don't wait. Go out and pick up a copy and enjoy.

Florida's Amendment 2

Amendment 2 is the legal name for medical marijuana. It was on the 2014 ballot but was defeated by 2 %. So far in 2016 it looks like the polls have put it at passing with 76% and as high as 82% of voters are in favor of passage. Now for those of you who have been hiding and have no clue what medical marijuana is all about. Well, I'm here to inform you.

Medical Marijuana has been used to help those with cancer and must go through chemotherapy. It helps those patients to eat better than when they use pharmaceutical pills that usually make them even sicker. It has recently been used in fighting cancer and has cured some folks. Marijuana is used for glaucoma patients as well as helping some people fight off PTSD.

What is truly a problem about all this is that the federal government and the pharmaceutical companies have known about the positive effects of medical marijuana for decades. The federal government went as far as to take out a patent on it. That's right, patent number 6630507 is medical marijuana. Why has this been kept so quiet to the general public? The DEA took it to court to quiet anybody from being interested in doing research on the plant. They were afraid that if the news got out that marijuana was actually good for something other than getting a buzz that they would lose funding and become extinct in the fight against drugs.

Well the secret is out and several states have already gone and legalized it for medical as well as recreational. Some states like Colorado have found out that not only is it a big cash crop but the taxes made off the sale of marijuana allows the state to work on some of the other challenges it faces. In other words the federal government is interested in the legalization of marijuana.

This November 8th the citizens of Florida will go vote for a new President and will also vote for the legalization of medical marijuana. Dispensaries are already coming to a city near you to help distribute the Charlotte's Web version of medical marijuana. Thus getting ready for the passage of Amendment 2 and the legalization of medical marijuana for the citizens of Florida. To find out more information please check out United For Care.

'Soledad' DVD Review

Victor (Jesse Celedon) is a limo driver who caters to the rich and famous of Los Angeles. The problem is that his customers are usually rude or obnoxious. Victor is simply a lonely Latino man who lives alone and has a certain routine that seems to fit him. He is an ex-con with a history that he wants to keep to himself. In his spare time he lifts weights and minds his own business. He takes the bus to go to work so he doesn't even get to take the limo home. In other words most people would look at this man and simply think he is a loser.

One night a guy and girl get into his limo after a prom. The guy's name is Preston (Chase Austin) and the girls name is Raquel (Montanna Gillis). Usually names wouldn't matter much but this isn't an ordinary night. You see Preston wants to get laid and he doesn't care where. So he starts to go after Raquel in the backseat and she wants nothing to do with it. Victor stops the car and beats little rich boy Preston silly.

Victor and Raquel get back in the car and leave Preston on the side of the road. Conversation begins to take place and the two end up at a Taco Truck and eventually to a tattoo joint. The two like to hang out together and will end the night at a dance club that isn't very populated. Preston doesn't want to let bygones be bygones and wants some revenge but you'll have to watch the movie to find out what happens.

Candy Factory Films brings this film to DVD on July 26th, 2016. The quality of the DVD is excellent and the sights and sounds are exquisite. This offbeat film is a joy to watch. There are times in the movie where you know you have had the same thing happen to you, especially on those late nights. This is definitely one for your personal library so don't hesitate and go pick it up. Enjoy.

Democratic Convention Day One Wrap Up

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is host for the Democratic Convention and so far so good. Bernie Sanders supporters were protesting the news that was leaked this past weekend. It seems e-mails will be topic of discussion for some time to come. It cost the party chairman her position. Debbie Wasserman Schultz was speaking to the Florida delegation and she was being booed because of the information on those e-mails. It seems that the party never gave Sanders a chance and did its best to hurt him in the primary season. Sanders surprised everyone and gave Hillary Clinton a run for her money.

The gavel was heard and the convention was on. The speakers for the evening were First Lady Michelle Obama, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren. Mrs. Obama spoke openly of her time in the White House and the crowd loved it. Elizabeth Warren went after Donald Trump and it looks like it worked. You see, Trump attacked her during the day and spoke viciously about her time in the Senate.

The speech of the evening was definitely Bernie Sanders and his call for unity. He knows his followers are upset over these e-mails but the time has come as he spoke to look forward not backward. The time has come to make sure that Donald Trump doesn't get into the White House. He spoke to the delegates and simply said support Hillary Clinton for President. Some of his followers are looking at all this with an open mind and want to vote Democrat, but some may go third party.

What was evident after the days activities was that none seemed to want Trump as President. The next three days will show whether Sanders was able to squash the negativity and bring the party together.

The Democratic Party can win this election, but it is also theirs to lose. If they can't come together and pull their resources together they will certainly lose to Donald Trump on November 8th. The next three days will certainly be worth watching and if you are a political junkie as I am this is certainly your Super Bowl. God Bless America.

Republican Convention Day Four Wrap Up

Tonight was the night when Donald Trump accepted the nomination to be the next President of the United States. In his speech, he would speak of fear and just how bad life is under the Obama administration. Trump would talk of the big illegal immigration problem mostly from the Mexican border. He would talk of how immigrants were coming across the border and killing innocent women and children.

Trump would go on to speak of the crisis all across the Middle East. He would talk of how there was no problems when Obama took office and how now there is utter chaos. he would mention the Iran nuclear agreement and how we didn't really get anything out of the deal.

Trump would speak of Hillary Clinton and how she did such a poor job as Secretary of State. He would blame her for much of what is going on in the Middle East even though she has not been Secretary of State for some four years.

Trump would talk of bringing Justice back into American lives. He would speak of how great the police are and how especially in Cleveland the cops did such a fine job over the last four days.
Trump would talk of just how much corruption there is in politics and especially in the Clinton household. He would speak of the e-mail controversy and how guilty she is of for erasing her e-mails to cover up her crimes.

Trump would speak of all the ills in the world and how he could fix everything, but what he didn't do is explain how he wound fix it all. He talked of how he and his running mate Mike Pence the Governor of Indiana will bring jobs back to America.

Did Trump bring the Republican Party into the fold? Did he unify them behind his Law and Order candidate approach? Only time will tell. Unfortunately, all he was able to show us was that this is going to be one of the nastiest campaigns ever to be held in the United States. Hitler brought fear into the picture and look what his time in Germany brought us, WWII.

I have to ask, as a Republican, is this the best we can come up with? I am ashamed that the party I have been tied to for some 25 years is destroying this country. From the Republican Congress that has been in power these past eight years and the fact that they have passed the fewest bills in the History of the United States, to the fact that all we can come up with for a presidential nominee is Donald Trump, we are in sad shape.
Overall this has been one of the worst Republican conventions in recent history. Good luck to us all.

Republican Convention Day Three Wrap up

Day Three brought with it some fireworks, and America got to watch. In the afternoon we finally saw some shoving and pushing from outside protesters. It seems a communist group wanted to protest in a certain spot and supporters of Trump wanted to protest in the same spot. So like children they begin to shove and push each other. The cops were on the scene quickly and a couple of protesters were arrested. Yet it was in the auditorium last night when we saw the actual fireworks.

Most of the speakers were lame or lost. Pam Bondi and Rick Scott of Florida were on stage and to put it mildly it was a disgrace. They did nothing for the Republican cause. Senator Ted Cruz took the stage and for the first part of his speech he had the crowd eating out of his hands. It was when the delegates started to get the clue that Cruz was not going to endorse Trump for President that it began to get vocal. The boos began and by the end of his speech he was almost booed off the stage.
For the finale of the evening we were able to listen to Trump's running mate Mike Pence, Governor of Indiana, to finally have a proper say in this election. In his coming out party last week it was Trump who took center stage, but last night Pence did nothing to further his cause. He did accept the nomination for Vice President. We did get to know that he is a Christian and that he is a republican but we really didn't get to hear much else. We did hear the usual Clinton and Obama bashing. We did get to hear how America could be great again. We did hear about that wall everyone wants to build but we didn't hear how the Trump/Pence team is going to fix anything.
Tonight is the big finale of the week and Donald Trump must hit a home run. He must bring the party together on the same page. He must begin to tell America his plan to get us back on track. Simply put he must bring the crowd to their feet so that they can go back to their individual states repeating the dream to all of us who weren't in Cleveland. We shall see tonight.

Charlotte's Web Marijuana

It is named after a young girl by the name of Charlotte Figi. Figi was born with epilepsy and at the young age of five would suffer up to 300 seizures a week. Her parents and doctors were besides themselves as to how to help this young girl. The doctors had heard of using marijuana to help alleviate the seizures but it really hadn't been tried before and it was uncharted territory.

They were able to break down the plant and eliminate the THC part of the plant and use the CBD side or cannabidiol. They would make it into an oil base like syrup and administer it to young Charlotte. The results were immediate. Seizures fell dramatically and now Charlotte lives an almost regular type childhood. Her seizures are now down to some four a month which is almost a miracle. What is so amazing about this story is that now in half the states of this country Charlotte's Web is legal in most states. It still has the stigma of being on the national list of do's and don't' as it is marijuana, but time will tell when or if this will change.

In 2014 the Florida Legislature adopted a law for the use and implementation of Charlotte's Web but as of today it is not available to the public. It had been debated in the court and won and it was supposed to be available June 2016 but is still not available. This is unacceptable as their are children like Charlotte who could benefit from this oil but have to endure the pain and humiliation of the seizures. Speaking from experience as a teacher and having to witness an epileptic seizure first hand in a young boy of nine, it is a scary event. Thanks to the help from a teacher next door we were able to work through the seizure but I could see that some of the other children didn't understand what was happening. Florida, this medicine needs to be on the market today. There are children who can benefit from it now. To find out more information please check out United For Care.

Republican Convention Day Two Wrap up

The evening started off with the call of States and the nomination process. So for the next 2 1/2 hours the TV audience was given the honor of hearing from every State of the Union and how the delegates voted. There really was no hidden agenda here and everyone knew the outcome would be Donald Trump receiving the nomination of the party to represent them for the Presidency of the United States. The speakers of the night were supposed to be talking of getting America back to work. Unfortunately that didn't happen and the TV audience was shown the beginnings of what is coming in the months ahead. The attack of Hillary Clinton has officially begun.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie went for the jugular and became the prosecutor of the evening. You could hear the delegates chanting "Lock Her Up". So it begins, and by the end of this election season the citizens of the United States will have seen one of the most ruthless Presidential runs ever.

Trumps children Donald Trump Jr. and Tiffany took center stage and attempted to paint a caring and understanding father. Tiffany spoke on a more personal level, talking about how her father was always there for her especially during a dark time in her life when a friend had passed away and she took it badly. Trump Jr. talked more of the business side of his father. He spoke of how his father hires his employees and that he took it more from a street perspective rather than an elitist point of view. Junior did speak of the need to bring America back to work but he did so by attacking the Democrats and their lack of being able to do so.

Overall it was an evening that would show this convention was finally coming together and solidifying its backing of Trump for President. What it didn't do was give America a blueprint of how the Republicans are going to bring us back to work. What it did do was show just how nasty this campaign season is going to be. What it did do was show America how Chris Christie may be looking for a job as Attorney General in a Trump cabinet. What it did do was show America a lighter side of Donald Trump through the eyes of his children.

Day Three is coming tomorrow and the highlight will be the speech coming from Trump running mate Mike Pence. The Indiana Governor is going to have to give possibly the greatest speech of his life. Day three may be big enough to overshadow Trumps acceptance speech coming on Thursday but we shall see.

'Bitten: The Final Season' DVD Review

Elena Michaels (Laura Vandervoort) is a photographer who was bitten by a werewolf. She would try to hide her secret in the beginning of the series but over a period of time would eventually become the strong ferocious leader of a pack of her own. Republican Convention Day One Wrap up

The Republican Convention opened up in Cleveland on Monday July 18th, 2016 to a very lukewarm reception. We the people have been promised a convention to surpass all others. What we got was tepid speeches, a brief rules challenge, no serious protests outside the convention, and a plagiarized First Lady Speech.

The first day speakers all spoke of making America safe again, attacks on Hillary Clinton, and keeping safe the Republican control of Congress. The saddest part of these speeches was that they were lackluster at best. They truly did not get the audience involved and to put it mildly it almost seemed that the delegates were bored. I know the TV audience certainly was bored.

By mid afternoon those delegates that were not in favor of electing Donald Trump as their candidate tried to rework the rules of the convention. They were quieted quickly and some actually walked out of the event.

As for the promised demonstrations outside the convention those that did took place were tame at best. Yes, there was some who supported Black Lives Matter and some attackers on Hillary Clinton, but for the most part it was quiet.

The finale of the evening was the speech of Melania Trump and the introduction given by her husband. Donald Trump came on stage to the song "We Are The Champions" by Queen. What has become a first day faux pas is the possible plagiarism of Melania's speech from Michelle Obama's speech of 2008. There were similar lines almost word for word, but some could say that it was just a small mistake.

All in all the first day of the Republican Convention sucked. The bottom line is that if the party wants to win over some of the undecided votes, they fell far short. Hopefully day 2 will knock us off our feet, but it really doesn't look like that will happen.

Cannabis

Cannabis is called many things but one name that is used the most is Marijuana. It has been illegal for decades. The governments of the world have spent trillions trying to fight it's usage. What's even more ironic is that these same governments know that marijuana can be used for many different things.
For instance, the United States has held a patent for medical marijuana for the past four decades. It can help children who suffer from seizures actually cutting the number down from 200 a week to one. Now, that is amazing, and what really matters is that not all the children who need it can get it. You see it's not legal in all the states.

Medical Marijuana can help with cancer patients who must endure chemotherapy. It can help those who have glaucoma. Medical marijuana can now be used to help those who are affected with Alzheimer's. The plant is now being tested to help veterans with PTSD. It is unthinkable that a simple weed or plant does more than the pills that pharmaceutical companies are trying to pass off as trusted remedies, yet they deny us.
Marijuana has been used for thousands of years for many other things such as paper, building materials, and can be used as fuel. It can be grown anywhere and its uses can include clothing and other textiles.
So why then if we have found so many uses for marijuana is it still illegal? In some states they have finally come to terms with the true facts. It is a cash crop that for states like Colorado who have legalized both medical and recreational marijuana it can be a windfall of taxes that eventually helps the state.
It is time for the citizens of this great country to finally see the former evil weed for what it is, and that is a plus for medicine and industry. Legalize it now. To find out more information please check out United For Care.

Republican National Convention 2016

The Republicans have arrived in Cleveland, Ohio. The speakers as well as the delegates are lackluster at best. What we have not seen as yet are the wide spread demonstrations that we have been promised. Yes, it is the first day of a four day event but seriously is it really going to get any better?

Senator Roger Wicker of Mississippi was speaking this afternoon but what was coming from his mouth was nothing new, just the same old party line mumbo jumbo. The bashing of President Obama was quite prevalent including the inadequacy of his time in office. The attack on Obamacare came as easily as one picks his own nose. We've seen and heard it all before and it's time that someone comes up with a better grasp on the realities facing the United States.

Senator Pat Roberts of Kansas followed Wicker but unfortunately the audience was left with the feeling that we have heard it all before, oh yes we did minutes before. The musical performances  between the speakers was also lackluster at best. Simply put, Republicans if you want the American vote you really should create a better show. Yes, that's right I said show because really that's what a political convention is, a show. Which party can generate more enthusiasm and get that undecided vote to come over to their side.
So we have three more days and I certainly hope that the Republican Party can generate more enthusiasm because what I saw this afternoon made me take a nap.

'Bad Moon' DVD Review

Ted Harrison (Michael Pare) is a photojournalist who has a secret like no other. He actually is a werewolf. This all took place when he was out in the woods of Nepal and was bitten by a beast he had never seen before. Ted would eventually become a beast himself and it didn't matter what stage the moon was in, he would turn each and every night.

Ted decided to head to the Pacific Northwest to spend some time with his sister and nephew. Janet (Mariel Hemingway) had no idea what her brother had become. The strangest thing though, her German Shepherd Thor knew something was wrong with this stranger. Ted believed the secret would always be kept hidden as dead men can't say anything. He never had a clue that a family pet would know better. Thor was there to protect his family and this certainly was something to be wary of. Ted did well for a time but eventually he will slip up and attack one or both of his family.

'Bad Moon' has all the screams and horror you would expect from a werewolf film. The acting is good and it really does bring it all together for a terrifying experience. Scream Factory brings this terror to DVD on July 19th, 2016. The DVD quality is excellent and the sights and sounds are great. This is definitely one for that personal library. Can Thor protect his family from a beast more horrifying than anything known? You mut watch the film to get that answer. Enjoy.

You end up living longer, usually. Ginny on the other hand does not care for her loud new neighbors and you guessed it, trouble is looming on the horizon.
Wild Eye Releasing is bringing this delicious tale of rejection to us on DVD on July 12th, 2016. This movie is also the directorial debut of horror actress Debbie Rochon. I must say she does a very good job on her first job as a
director. The DVD quality is excellent and the sights and sounds are exquisite. If you enjoy the horror genre then this is certainly one that you will want for your personal library. So don't waste any time and see who is next for dinner.
